Eye Disease Testing

If you are suffering from an undiagnosed eye issue, you can trust our team at VisionSmith in Plymouth to make an accurate and efficient diagnosis before administering treatment. We provide a full range of eye disease diagnostic and screening tests that includes routine eye exams and complex tests.

.

Visual Acuity Test

Our Plymouth optometrist can provide a vision acuity test as part of your comprehensive eye exam. The test will include measurements that will evaluate if your eyes are seeing clearly. In particular, we will use reading charts in measuring visual acuity.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

OCT is also part of an eye exam. OCT refers to non-invasive imaging that employs light waves to capture cross-sectional images of your retina. In this case, we can use the test to get images of the eye's structure, including vitreous humor, choroid, retina, and optic nerve. The test also will enable our eye doctor to know if you have any swelling in your retina. Most importantly, the measurements help us detect and diagnose retinal diseases such as diabetic eye disease and age-related macular degeneration.

Visual Field Test

This test is a subjective evaluation of your peripheral and central vision. We normally use it to diagnose the severity and presence of glaucoma. In this case, the visual test employs a light source that our eye doctor will present at various angles of your peripheral vision.

Fundus Photography

The Fundus photography test uses a photograph within the surface of your eyes that includes your posterior pole (fundus), macula, optic disc, and retina. By getting photos of such parts, we can monitor the progression or diagnose eye disease.
