After practicing optometry for the past 33 years in the NW suburbs, and the last 26 years in the present location in Plymouth, it is time for me to hang up my cleats and start a new chapter in life. I want to thank all of you for the support you have shown our small, family owned, local business. My wife and I will be eternally grateful. VisionSmith was a dream of ours to bring the service and care of eyes to the Plymouth community, and now it is time to pass the reins to a new owner.
Dr. John Mueller OD will be this new owner and optometrist of VisionSmith. He is Wisconsin born, a graduate of Marquette University & Ferris State University, Michigan College of Optometry. He has been practicing optometry in the Twin Cities area for 5 years, and is a perfect fit to continue and exceed VisionSmith’s original dream. He has my total trust, and I know he will build that trust in you and your family’s eye care.
Lastly, I would like to again thank you for all you have done for us. Thank you for bringing yourself and family members in for exams and eyewear, recommending us to friends and coworkers, and putting up with all the Hawkeye sports talk! You will all be sorely missed.

My name is John Mueller, and I will be taking over as the new owner of VisionSmith. It is a great honor to take over for an optometrist who has served his community so well over the last 33 years.
As was stated in Dr. Smith’s letter, I am a 2016 graduate of the Michigan College of Optometry. I have also completed an internship at the Grand Rapids VA in MI, with a focus on ocular disease and low vision. Additionally, I completed an internship at the Heart of the City in Grand Rapids, with a focus on ocular disease and pediatrics. I have practiced in the Twin Cities for the last five years, with the majority of my time working at an optometry practice in Maple Grove, MN.
I grew up in a small town just south of Green Bay, WI. My wife and I were introduced to Minnesota and the Twin Cities through some of our family that had moved here from Wisconsin, as well as many friends that we made while attending Marquette University. We were, and still are, amazed at what the Twin Cities have to offer. We love the active lifestyle here and all of the genuinely nice and caring people.
I look forward to getting more involved in this great community and getting to know you and your family. With the time that I have spent getting to know Dr. Smith over the past several months, I have seen true dedication to patient care, and I will do everything I can to meet the standard he has put into place. Over time, I hope that you and your family will grow to find me as a trusted eyecare provider that has done everything to meet and exceed your expectations in both vision and ocular health, as you have with Dr. Smith.
